A Former Mother of the Bride’s Perspective: Investing in a Wedding Coordinator

If you're unsure whether a wedding coordinator is necessary for your wedding, today on the blog we're sharing a mother of the bride's take on why she wanted a wedding coordinator for her daughter's wedding day and why she thinks hiring a wedding coordinator is worth the investment!

A couple weeks ago, we shared 4 reasons why we think investing in a wedding coordinator is worth the investment from our perspective, as you guessed it – wedding coordinators! And this week we’re back to share Part 2 of our series – from a mother of the bride’s perspective!

Some mothers of the bride are extremely involved in helping to plan their daughter’s wedding day, while others prefer to take a back seat. But no matter which category your mom falls into, we think every mother of the bride deserves peace and presence on the day of their daughter’s wedding.

Wedding coordination isn’t a skillset or talent that can be documented like say, florals or a cake, for instance. And in many cases, it’s usually not until the wedding day itself when the value of a wedding coordinator’s role truly is seen as one of the best investments one can make in the wedding planning process.

Because of that, we understand that there can oftentimes be hesitation to invest in a wedding coordinator. So we asked a former mother of the bride we had the honor of working with, to chime in on her perspective and why she felt compelled to hire a wedding coordinator for her daughter’s wedding – even though she was extremely organized and heavily involved in the planning process.

So if you’re on the fence of hiring a wedding coordinator, here’s a mother of the bride’s take (Q&A style) on the benefits of investing in a wedding coordinator.

01. What drew you to the idea of hiring a wedding coordinator for your daughter’s wedding day?

I had several friends that had used a wedding coordinator for their daughter’s wedding and they highly recommended using one. At the time, I had no idea what a wedding coordinator’s role was going to play for my daughter’s wedding, but put it down on our to-do list for when we began researching wedding vendors.

02. Describe the role of a wedding coordinator from your experience?

I learned the role of the wedding coordinator was to coordinate all the vendors, check all the contracts, create the timeline, and set up at the church and reception. It is a fun, hectic time and details can easily slip past you. One example, while reviewing our floral contract, our wedding coordinator discovered we were short boutonnieres and did not have enough centerpieces accounted for all our guest tables!

03. What would you say to another mother of the bride who is unsure a wedding coordinator is necessary?

A wedding coordinator was the best money we spent on our daughter’s wedding! You know when you wish you could be two places at the same time? Well, a wedding coordinator makes that possible. She knew exactly what we wanted and I knew everything would be set up and run as if I were in charge!

04. From a mother of the bride’s perspective, why do you think a wedding coordinator is worth investing in?

Of all the money we spent on our daughter’s wedding, our wedding coordinator was one of the most beneficial things we spent money on. Sure we could have saved money here and there, but a wedding coordinator is not one of the things we would have eliminated. Don’t skimp on a wedding coordinator!

05. How did having a wedding coordinator on your daughter’s wedding day positively impact the day?

Having a wedding coordinator made it possible to enjoy the entire wedding day right by my daughter’s side! I had all the confidence that when I walked into the reception it was set up just how we wanted, the reception would run smoothly and all the vendors knew when and what their parts where. I was not disappointed!

06. What was the most beneficial part of having a wedding coordinator on your daughter’s wedding day?

The most beneficial part of having a wedding coordinator on the day of my daughter’s wedding was the peace of mind that the day would be perfect and run smoothly. I truly could be a guest at the wedding. Our wedding coordinator handled everything! Even the few little “hiccups” that come along that you do not expect (day of change of plans – rain, parking and traffic due to an NFL game, wedding shuttle A/C issues), she took charge and everything worked out perfect! If I had to plan a wedding a thousand times, a wedding coordinator would be a part of all of them!
