The biggest gift I am invited to bear witness to on a wedding day is watching a couple experience joy together. The months of their engagement, the details they have chosen while planning, and the excitement of embarking on a new journey all combine to create an energy that is palpable. The best result is when the pair simply leans in to being fully present together, so they can experience every moment of their wedding day with pure happiness. Kathleen + Nick truly lived every moment because these two were never without a shared smile, which GEM Photography captured perfectly!
Kathleen + Nick met several years prior to their wedding day, and they opted to do their own version of speed dating. They went on a date every day for two weeks, and at the end realized they were meant to be. These weeks together were well intentioned. When we learned about their relationship and the details the pair had already chosen once we started working together, we were never once surprised by the thoughtfulness and attention to detail with which they opted to plan.
Kathleen’s family has great ties to their church, Our Lady of Lourdes, so it was a given that Kathleen + Nick would officially become husband and wife at the same venue. She even noted to The Knot that they kissed twice during their ceremony – once before they were officially Mr. and Mrs. – which all of their guests and everyone on their team loved. It was a moment that was so them.
After their ceremony, Kathleen + Nick joined together for a night of celebration with their wedding guests. Kathleen wanted the style of their wedding day to feel and look like a wonderful mixture of chic design mixed with a dose of rustic, so the Biltwell Event Center served as a perfect backdrop. The space has a fairly blank canvas, but the exposed brick and wood beams offered an automatic nod to Kathleen + Nick’s desired rustic style.
The rest of their look came together beautifully thanks to the incredible florals designed by The Empty Vase. Tables were adorned with flowers in neutral shades of ivory mixed with plenty of blue and green to create a lovely summer palette, and the true showstopper of the day was Kathleen + Nick’s floral arch. The Empty Vase placed the design right behind where the pair sat for dinner, and the sun highlighted them perfectly!
Kathleen + Nick, the Biltwell Event Center is such a gem, and the venue felt even more special thanks to both of you. Between your meaningful ceremony, gorgeous flowers, and thoughtful touches, like your cigar bar for the gents, we’re still so honored to have been a part of your day!
